Save Your Story. Tell Your Story.

Hi, I'm Corinne Bortner, or CB, I'm the owner of CB's Bookworks! I'm glad you're here, let me introduce myself!

I have always been a reader, a lover of stories, and a protector of literature.

The road to this path has not been linear, though at times it felt as though I was following a beam, guiding me here, bringing me to you.

After I graduated with a somewhat nebulous degree in English literature, my husband and I decided to follow our travel dreams and moved overseas. I taught early childhood education, reading and literacy, and English as a foreign language in countries like South Korea, China, Thailand, and Italy. We had the most amazing adventures, but eventually, it was time to come back to the US. We missed our families, and were ready to start something new.

Once I'd adjusted to life back in America, I looked for ways to replenish the joy that travel and teaching brought me. With the support of my husband, I embarked on my new course, becoming a librarian! During the COVID-19 closures, I was pursuing online classes for my degree when I took a course on the preservation of books, paper, and audio-visual materials. My love of reading and physical books was ignited by the ways I learned to save books from the ravages of time and poor materials. I knew I needed to learn more.

But  it was a pandemic! There were few ways to get hands-on experience in book binding, book repair and preservation. I connected with Andrew Huot (Big River Bindery) and badgered him into hiring me as an intern. After a four month internship, Andrew offered me a full time position as his assistant in the bindery.

For two years, I worked under his guidance to learn and utilize the best practices for book repair and preservation. I've worked on children's books, photo albums, daily bibles, and the large family bibles, among other things.

I am ecstatic to be able to bring my passion and talent for book binding and repair to my own business.

Our stories are worth telling. Let me help preserve them.
